Remember, if you are using anything other than standard incense, you should try to insulate the bottom of the abalone shell with ash or sand. This will make sure that the shell will survive the increased temperatures of the smoldering incense. They fit almost any lifestyle, with a certain elegance that only they can offer a room.
2. You then have the most standard of the burners available. The ash-catching incense burner. It can be found almost anywhere that you find incense, and is generally your least-expensive option. Whether they are simple wooden holders, or a carved holder either way you will find one to fit your stick incense. They are available not only in wood but ceramic, glass, bone, and stone as well. They can be found in a plain finish, carved, painted, or inlaid with silver or brass. Typically fairly simple, thy can become ornate pieces of sculpture for a1ff8ny one house.
3. You now have the bowl burner. Much like the abalone shell, it can be used for different types of incense. They come in either ceramic or brass, with a screen top or an ornate hanging censor along with a lid to make them much safer. Simply add in some ash incense and let it smoulder away.
4. The box burner is another type of ash-catching incense burner. It normally includes a top as well as a bottom, and an enclosed storage box on the underside. Typically found carved out of wood with different paint or finishes; they can become a tasteful part of your home.

7. Combination incense burners are a great way to get the most bang for your buck. They can handle more than one type of incense, which will widen your horizons on the different kinds of atmosphere you are going for. Some may be cone-burners with perforated lids, or even a flat disk that has various holes to hold more than one incense at a time. The most common combination burner is that of a bowl-shaped burner. Often times with holes in the side for stick incense along with the well within the middle to burn ash, or even coil incense.
8. Cone burners are the next in line. They are designed to protect surfaces from the cone incense. Of which is meant to burn completely. These metal bowls or cone-shaped burners are fit so that you can place the cone incense on the inside, along with a lid to allow for added protection for your cone incense. Remember that they aren’t really beginner incense burners, as they take a little know-how to use. You should always make sure that the cone incense is nestled within the cone incense burner along with about an inch of ash or sand.
9. Hanging spiral burners help to burn the spiral incense. Of which is meant to hang suspended in the air. These burners can be fairly difficult to find by themselves, however are commonly sold with the hanging spiral incense itself. These burners usually consist of a rod with a hook on the end, along with a plate or bowl at the base to catch any falling ash. These incense burners are fairly user-friendly, but should always be kept out of reach of pets or children.

There is no right or wrong choice, simply what will fit your life the best. 10. For the tenth type, you have the traditional Japanese burner. Otherwise known as the cup-style. It is used mostly for loose incense powder. However it can be used for many different types of incense, and is a versatile solution.
11. Another style you have to choose from are clay and stone burners. They come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and colors to meet your individual decorating needs. While some may have two or three different sized holes for accommodating different types of incense sticks; others may simply be single-incense stick burners. The one down-side to these, is that they don’t normally work with any of the thicker style stick such as Indian or Tibetan dhoop sticks. Regardless, they are still a favorite among fragrance lovers.
12. Lastly you have the smudge bowls and pots for incense. These are normally used to cradle smoldering smudge bundles of incense. However they can also be used to burn loose herbs, resin, or charcoal. Despite the type of incense that you burn in these beautiful bowls, you should always make sure that they are fire-proof. If you plan on burning charcoal tablets, line the base of the smudge bowl or pot with ash or sand to insulate the base.
Regardless of the type you choose to bring into your life. It has a way of creating the perfect atmosphere for almost any occasion. Now that you have an understanding of the different types, you can now make an educated choice on which is best for you.
